Simple Generator Maintenance Can make the Difference

November 8, 2012

Storm season is back and plenty of generator interest comes with it. Most recently this past October Sandy caused massive destruction and left thousands without power, many still yet to have it turned back on well over a week later. For those that had prepared for the worst by purchasing a generator you may very well have gotten through the outage without any problem. For others just purchasing the generator and having it there is not enough because when they went to start it nothing happened. Consumers may not realize how vital it is to properly maintain and service their generators so they are assured proper function when it is called upon. We received many calls throughout the storm and days afterwards of generators not starting or failing during the power outage.

Many of our customers that had installed a Kohler whole house automatic generator got to see the benefits first hand during this last storm. Of course Kohler has the added advantage of a weekly/bi-weekly test cycle that makes sure its ready when it’s needed. In fact many of our installations include an added feature of the “OnCue” monitoring software allowing both the customer and ourselves to see if there is any issues during its test cycle, and emails are sent each time the utility power was lost and the back-up power took over. Each one of our installations also include the first year of service within the cost of the job. Too many people do not realize how important some simple maintenance services on the generator will keep them from having a failure to start when it’s needed most. At Caron Electric our customers do not have to worry about these sorts of things because of our yearly service maintenance contracts assuring a working generator each and every time.

So what do I mean by simple generator maintenance you ask. Well first off as a consumer you must understand that a generator is just like a big motor for your home. Would you drive around in your car for a year or more without checking its oil levels or replacing your filters as required by the manufacturer? Well a generator is no different and requires that you service it to assure its stays operating at its best performance. These things include oil, oil and fuel filters, spark plugs, battery and heater to name a few. Being that any one of those can cause a problem with the proper operation of the generator it is a must that you stay on a schedule. As I am most familiar with the Kohler product line I will talk about that, Kohler recommends once a year or every 100 hours for service. Kohler units have a run time odometer so you can see how many hours of operation has been logged on it. Different generator manufacturers may have similar requirements on the time interval or hours on the unit or exactly what should be checked and replaced during the service but all require this type of care to guarantee it in good working order.

During the last storm we saw everything from batteries that had gone dead, heaters that had malfunctioned, oil levels that were not maintained, all of these things resulted in generator failure for the customer. Getting somebody out for a service or repair during these busy times cost the consumer more then the annual service would have to start with. For example Caron Electric charges an annual service maintenance contract of $395 and you don’t have to remember as it’s on an automatic service rotation. While many of the repairs, service and replacement part installations cost over $500 during the storm and days after because of the emergency nature and quick response time necessary. Add in the extra loss of time at work to be at home, food that would spoil, and the unhappy family members that came with the outage and you have certainly exceeded the value of a simple service maintenance to your generator.

So if you have a generator and you are considering yourself covered for the next storm or power outage time to reconsider. Ask yourself when was the last time it was serviced? If you don’t know start a log and keep it updated in your kitchen drawer or another place of safe keeping. This is good not only for your generator but any vital piece of equipment in your home from the boiler to furnace, air conditioning system, etc. If you have a Kohler brand generator and are living in Massachusetts you can even sign up for the yearly maintenance through Caron Electric…I will be glad to hear from you. Remember you made the right decision getting back-up power for your home, don’t make a bad decision and let it go unattended.

Winner: 2012 CMUS Talk of the Town Award for Excellence in Customer Satisfaction.

April 27, 2012

It gives me great pleasure to announce Caron Electric was awarded the 2012 Excellence in Customer Service.  This award is given out based upon research gathered by Celebration Media U.S. over the last twelve months. An accumulation of customer ratings, positive reviews, blogs and social networks are used to determine the highest rated and top-reviewed businesses.

Here at Caron Electric we pride ourselves in excelling to meet all of our customers needs and being pro-active in bringing the latest and greatest technology to our trade. With the use of social media like Twitter and Facebook we keep clients informed and try to give a face to our customer service department.  From answering our phones with a live operator 24/7 to responding to all emails within 24 hours or less you can always expect the best when working with Caron.  No matter how small the question or problem we understand how important our customers are to growing the business and strive to make every one of them feel appreciated.

When I first started with Caron Electric, about 10 years ago, I never thought of how many things could change in just one decade. What used to be as simple as a courtesy follow-up call or customer satisfaction survey has turned into a world where reviews and feedback is left before you have a chance to pull out of the driveway. That to me is exciting, the world does not stop, the wheels keep on turning and you must always make sure you got your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel if you want to drive your business successfully.  That is why receiving recognition like this Excellence in Customer Service Award by the Talk of the Town just reiterates responsive, responsible, and reactive customer service is good business practice.

I would like to close this announcement with a heartfelt Thank You to all of our customers, vendors, and business contacts that have been so vital to the success and future of Caron Electric. We wish each and everyone of you the best in 2012 and years to come.

Exciting news for the Fall Season

September 23, 2009

Hello and welcome back.

Things have been picking up at Caron Electric as you can see I have not had much time to update our blog. I have exciting news I would like to share with my consumers and readers. Everyone has gone through some hardships with the economy taking a turn for the worse. Of course we had to make some tough decisions to assure Caron Electric would be around for years to come. Because of those decisions we have been able to slowly reposition ourselves for future expansion. That time has come and we recently added another electrician to our work force. Our newest electrician Brian is fully licensed and has many years of experience working in both the residential and commercial electrical field. So while other companies are still trying to get a handle on their future Caron Electric’s is burning brighter then ever.

Another even more exciting change here at Caron Electric for our customers is the reduction of our pricing by 10%. As the competition is greater than ever we knew the best way to stay competitive would be an overhaul of our pricing. I am happy to announce we are in our final stage of preparation to bring our new pricing manual to the field.

This upcoming Fall Season will have many opportunities to use our services and save money, take advantage today! If you have not already signed up for our email promotions and discount program take a moment out to email me at service@caronelectric.com

Ductless Air Conditioning Systems – It’s worth a second look!

July 21, 2009

Have you always wanted a Central Air conditioning system in your home or business but thought it impossible and cost prohibitive; well it is time to take a look at a Ductless Split air conditioning system. With the advancement in technology and product enhancement the ductless split air conditioning from Fujitsu/Halcyon is a perfect fit for many installations. At a fraction of the cost of a standard central air you will get all the benefits of having a central controlled cooling system. Select systems also have a heat option for supplemental heating. Halcyon products have been designed to provide zoned comfort for residential and commercial applications. Engineered to install quickly and easily without ductwork, Halcyon systems provide cooling and heating solutions where others cannot.

A few key advantages of a Ductless Split system over a central air system or window air conditioner unit are…

1)      Quite Operation – since the system is comprised of an indoor and outdoor unit the louder components like motors and compressors can be installed outside

2)      Easy installation – the unit is feed by a copper tube running through a small 3” to 4” inch opening in the wall or ceiling to connect the indoor and outdoor units

3)      Energy Efficient – Since there are no ducts involved Halcyon systems lose less then 5% cooling vs. up to 40% on traditional forced-air systems. Higher efficiency including Energy Star Qualified units means you save money on your utility bill.

4)      Individual zoning – Cool or heat only the areas you want, or your entire home or business with multiple zone units.

5)      Environmentally Friendly – Halcyon systems use R410A refrigerant which is designed to prevent the depletion of the ozone layer.

6)      Safe and secure – Window air conditioners leave the home venerable for intruders to enter. Halcyon units are mounted high on the wall, away from the window, not compromising your security. Leaving you with a functional window and pleasant view.

If the above advantages are not enough how about the varying equipment models and ease of installation that makes these systems a must have. Halcyon systems eliminate the need for any evaporator unit or costly and bulky ductwork installations. The thin copper tubing feeds the refrigerant directly into the discreet wall mounted units inside. Piping can often be done by routing through walls and joists to be aesthetically pleasing. The indoor units quietly distribute cooling/heating to the interior space.  With the ease of mixing and matching capacities and configurations the Halcyon units are great for even the most difficult areas to heat or cool. With the option to provide up to four separate zones with a timer and optional wired remote you are always in control of the varying comfort needs in different spaces of your home or business.

All of these things result in a highly efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost effective way of bringing cooling and heating to your location. Now with even more cost savings available to you; Special incentives currently being offered are as follows…

Fujitsu Summer Relief Rebate – Up to $300 on select systems

Federal Tax Credit – 30% up to $1500 for the installation of select systems in tax years 2009/2010

Caron Electric provides all this information as a source of knowledge to help consumers make the right decision. We provide onsite consultations and free written estimates to anyone within our coverage area. As a Fujitsu certified installer you can rest assured you will be getting the job done right.
